Nicotra Di S.Giacomo

The passion for research and the inherent sense of pride in the tradition of craftsmanship are the defining characteristics of the Nicotra di S.Giacomo goldsmith store.
Trained in a stimulating home environment – his father an architect, his grandfather a painter – Alessandro decides to pursue his love for the art and nature in the most congenial of ways; by creating, producing, and inventing solutions. He is a student of the master sculptor Ugo Sartoris from whom he learns the techniques and secrets of the goldsmith trade, and of the micro sculpture of losting wax.
And so his passion is born for the art of the goldsmith and the idea to develop the renaissance theme of the bottega (the workshop), choosing the art of knowing how to construct as the artisan, before the skills of the artist.
It si in this vein that the goldsmith’s workshop of Nicotra di San Giacomo is born in the centre of Rome, on a street that still retains the contrasting characteristics of beauty and intrigue of the so-called eternal city, nestled among antique shops, vintage boutiques, old workshops, and modern showrooms.
Initially Alessandro Nicotra di S. Giacomo harbours an interest in design and in the creation of goldwork made in unique pieces, microsculpture of losting wax. The first jewelry is born in gold, silver and precious stone as in the most classical Italian traditions. The workshop follows two parallel destinies: the traditional technique of the past and the avant-guard.
From his love of tradition, Alessandro designs a line of jewelry of romantic descent and ancient appeal, inspired by the forms of the late 19th century jewels. The 14kt line is born. Diamond roses, diamond incoronations, sapphires, rubies and emeralds cut in ancient style and mounted on jewelry of ancient gold and silver, crafted with the ancient goldsmith techniques of the 19th century.
The passion for nature and the raw materials that make it up, the use of new techniques, new joints and alternative metals, combine to product the contemporary Materia line. New raw cute natural stones fuse with pure silver, white bronze and titanium, natural oxidizations illuminate the objects which evoke forms of primordial nature, jewels are born as unique microsculptures of metal and rock.
